Kassala,
April 13 (SUNA) - Assistant
of the President, Musa Mohammed
Ahmed, Sunday inaugurated at Osman
Digna Hall in Kassala the forum
Sustainable Peace and Development
in Eastern Sudan, organized by the
Government of Kassala State in collaboration
with the UNDP on 13 -14 April.
Present were Adviser of the President
Dr. Amna Dirar, Wali (Governor)
of Kassala State Salah Ali Adam,
and the Ambassadors of Egypt, India,
Japan, Italy, Switzerland, UK and
Representatives of the UN agencies
and donors. Addressing the opening
session, the Assistant of the President,
stressed the importance of the forum
for the Eastern States, saying that
it is a high time to pause to consider
the progress of people of Eastern
Sudan. Musa said that sustainability
of peace in Eastern Sudan requires
balanced development at all aspects,
saying that the outcome of the forum
would be useful and real addition
to the development plan.
Meanwhile, the Wali of Kassala State
said the forum comes as part of
the lasting peace and development
in the eastern Sudan, saying that
the peace agreement of Eastern Sudan
is a real model for commitment and
partnership. He expressed hope that
the Forum addresses the issues of
cooperation, poverty alleviation,
education, health and water services
besides taming of Al-Gash River,
calling on the participants to care
for the challenges and priorities
towards achievement of transparent
partnership besides establishing
of fund to attract the support of
donors. The Adviser of the President,
Dr. Amna Dirar said the forum is
a crucial step in collaboration
with the UNDP and assistance of
friendly states, calling for working
together toward the development
of the area.
The UNDP Country Director Jerzy
Skuratowikz said the Forum comes
to boost the Peace Agreement as
well as to address essential issues,
expressing readiness to extend support
and to participate effectively in
development of east Sudan. The British
Ambassador to Sudan, Rose Linda,
who represented the international
community, expressed readiness to
support and strengthen the Eastern
Sudan Agreement, and called for
setting priorities for development
