UNDP Appoints Music band Aswat Almadina Goodwill Ambassadors in Sudan

Khartoum – February 14th, 2017-   Popular young Sudanese music band Aswat Almadina were appointed today  as National Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan.  The signing ceremony took place today  at the UNDP Sudan Country office in Khartoum.

UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Marta Ruedas addressed the ceremony where she underscored the band’s strong commitment to global development issues by affirming that “Aswat Al-Madina have been contributing to a number of development issues in Sudan including poverty eradication, environmental protection and peace building  rendering them  as compelling and eloquent advocates of these issues. The bands’ association with UNDP comes as a direct result of their high level commitment to tackling developmental challenges in Sudan through composing engaging music.”

Through their work as National UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors Aswat Almadina  are to promote the SDGs and the  work of UNDP in Sudan in media  appearances at public events; initiate activities and special events to raise public awareness , galvanize support for UNDP’s efforts around the SDGs and visit UNDP projects in Sudan to be able to provide first-hand accounts to diverse audiences of achievements in supporting the people of Sudan.

For his part, General Manager of Aswat Almadina  Mr. Muntaga Siddig expressed his pleasure with the band’s  appointment as Goodwill ambassadors by  stating  that “ This  occasion is indeed a joyous one. We are very pleased to be appointed as national goodwill ambassadors to Sudan. Through this significant partnership we are hoping to further advocate for the development  causes which we believe  in and to attract attention to address them. We have been doing so for some time now and we wish to affirm that we will continue doing so along with different partners everywhere. ”   

Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals from the worlds of sciences, literature, entertainment, sport or other fields of public life who have expressed their desire to contribute to the promotion and realization of the ideals enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

The National Goodwill Ambassador (GWA) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) upholds the vision of the United Nations Charter in general, and in particular the objective of promoting and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals set forth in the mandate of UNDP. As a public figure, the National GWA serves as a primary catalyst for helping build critical partnerships that will mobilize wider constituencies to achieve a future where poverty is a thing of the past.
