Launching of Indoor Residual Spraying campaign – Sinnar State

The National Malaria Control Programme, Federal Ministry of Health and Sinnar state Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and World Health –Organization (WHO) launched the Indoor Residual Spaying (IRS) campaign under the slogan (Indoor spraying in order to cut malaria transmission cycle) for the period of 29/10 – 28/11/2014.

Given the importance of continuing Indoor Residual Spaying (IRS)  for combating malaria  in the irrigated areas to encircle the transmission of the disease in accordance with the programme directives to earn the Global Fund malaria - Round 10  grant  which includes the implementation of indoor residual spray in = 245,000 households, a campaign was launched for  a period of a month in Sinnar state. The campaign covered about 1,322,223 residents in the targeted areas. The campaign was conducted by a total of 1576 workers , with  the participation of 277 state supervisors , 9 federal  supervisor  39 vehicles for supervisors and workers transportations. 

The campaign started on 10/29/2014 and is to continue until 28/11/2014; 16 workers have been trained on the pumps maintenance. The official opening of the campaign was  held on Sunday, 11/09/2014 in Sinnar. The end of the spraying campaign is expected to cover the targeted areas by more than 95%, noting that the insecticide used is harmless and is highly effective on mosquitoes and other insect vectors diseases.

The opening ceremony included  speeches of Mr. Awad Haji Ahmed, chairman of the public committee in Sinnar, Mr. Omer Abdul Rahman -, director of malaria control Sinnar state, and Mr. Hamouda Tabuk Tutu from the National Malaria Control Program, and Dr. Sakhr Badawi partners representative , Dr. Abdul Allah Alabwaby Ahmed, Director General Ministry of Health Sinnar state ;  Sinnar Governor Mr. Salah Abdel-Rahman ;  Mr. Mohamed Abdel Kader Minister of Ministry of Health Sinnar state and Eng. Ahmed Abbas Mohammed Saad Sennar state Wali plus representatives of UNICEF ; UNDP and WHO and the NGOs .

Mr. Mohamed Abdel Gadir Almamoun the State Minister of Health said “We would like to ensure our support for all Health programmes in the state in general and Malaria control Programs in specific. We are fully trust the spraying campaign which will be implemented in a very high quality and techniques with a full support of the whole working teams; we would like to thank all Sinnar people for their great cooperation as well “.
