UNDP Sudan Digest - Issue No.5, March 2015

09 Mar 2015

The beginning of the year is an opportunity to take stock and look ahead. Reviewing 2014, we are proud to share with you some of our key achievements in this Digest, which were presented at the UNDP Annual Review with government, civil society and international partners.

After two difficult months following the unfortunate departure of Ali Al-Za’tari (RR, RC/HC) and Yvonne Helle (CD) the Country Office is pleased to welcome Mr. El-Mostafa Benlamlih, our new interim UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative. We are now eager to conclude the strategic realignment and scaling up of flagship programmes within peacebuilding & rule of law, and sustainable development & resilience.

In 2015, the world will review achievements related to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), and we will see a transition to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Development leaders will also discuss innovative approaches to financing development in April in Addis, and review climate-related challenges in December in Paris. Throughout the year, we will try to facilitate engagement with these events and debates.

In partnership with HAC, we have just concluded a one-week training and discussion on Early Recovery and Resilience for sector partners and counterparts. Based on emerging recommendations, we are hoping to contribute to redefining development interventions and coordination in Sudan.

In this Digest, we tell you more about some of the key activities we are currently engaging in, whilst setting the stage for the rest of the year.

Best wishes, Your UNDP Sudan Team
