UNDP Sudan affirms its commitment to support Sudan National Human Right Commission

Yesterday, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Dr. Selva Ramachandran met with Her Excellency Iman Fath ElRahman, the Chairperson the of Sudan National Human Right Commission (SNHRC) in the presence of Dr. Taha Bamkar, the Secretary-General of the SNHRC.

During the meeting, the Chairperson briefed the Resident Representative about the upcoming strategic plan (2019-2024), which will focus on expanding the coverage of the commission in all the states through establishing new branch offices.

In addition, the Chairperson expressed her appreciation for the support provided by UNDP to the commission since its establishment and emphasized the impact of this collaboration on the current and future interventions.

In his part, the Resident Representative affirms UNDP commitment to support the commission to fulfill its mandate to promoting and protecting the enjoyment and full realization of the human rights, through providing technical support and programme assistance. He noted that strengthening human rights systems at the country level is a vital function, and a key element of this system is the existence of an independent and effective national human rights.
