Switzerland commits $1m to Darfur Livelihoods

Apr 20, 2016

UNDP and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC signed today an agreement which will grant $1m to promote sustainable livelihoods of Darfuri people. The Swiss funded Darfur Livelihoods and Recovery Project works to improve natural resource management and reduce natural resource-based conflicts and to strengthen the role of economic actors and public institutions linked to value chains and market during the period between 2016 and the end of 2017.

Supporting communities and villages throughout Darfur in the production, processing and marketing of Darfuri Groundnuts, Hibiscus and Bee honey the project has already at this stage  contributed to restore and improve community livelihood assets and household income. The Swiss contribution will push forward the economic recovery of Darfur and strengthen its integration with Sudan national economy as well as with regional and global markets.
