HIV/AIDS

The UNDP HIV/AIDS programme in Sudan leads an integrated strategy to promote HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care amongst the Sudanese public. This work is undertaken in close collaboration with the Sudan National HIV/AIDS Programme (SNAP), the technical department of the government responsible for HIV/AIDS national level policy, planning, and coordination, in addition to national and international organizations working in the field of HIV/AIDS. Our Goals

To help the country join the global fight against HIV/AIDS and other deadly diseases, UNDP’s interventions fall under two categories: (i) managing the funds allocated by the GFATM and (ii) implementing interventions that address HIV/AIDS and development, governance, human rights protection and gender equality. HIV and Development

The counseling and testing centre for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) set up in 2005 with support of the UNDP-managed Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) in Sudan. Part of the Omdurman Maternity Hospital, the Centre manages an estimated 26,000 deliveries every year. On any given day, close to 200 women seek counseling services for the prevention of HIV transmission. (Photo: UNDP Sudan)
